I’ve been going through my family’s things these past few weeks in preparation for a sale. Now I’ve finally had the opportunity to go through the little things saved. Just read this this morning.
I admit I’m a bit more emotional than usual due to an very unpleasant cold bug. But reading the news today about the memo, the sanctions, Puerto Rico, ICE, the bastards in DC, (and btw I can’t find sympathy for Melania….sorry) and whatever else in the last 2 hours has happened, this breaks my heart.
My mother and dad were two of so many that met because of the war- she was a WAVE at Farragut in Idaho and my dad was stationed there. His duty was state-side, so he never served overseas, nor was his service long. He worked for the Navy for many decades after first as a ship-fitter and upward from there.
I also, very recently, visited at Pearl Harbor for the first time. I had the opportunity to get a new perspective on what happened there and am currently reading Steve Twomey's book- Countdown to Pearl Harbor.
I don’t have starry-eyed notions of the WWII generation- they were all people with gifts...and warts. But to come to this now?! To witness this treachery??!!!
Democracy is about individuals doing their part for the greater good. Or at least that’s what I learned way back when.
